Revised 8466 4x4 Off Roader

In Feb 2003 I actually got myself the 4x4 off roader! Seriously... I got it 20$ off on ebay. Anyway it is COOL and I have named mine Fingal after the Stan Rogers song The Legend of Fingal. It is my first large technic set and it took me one solid afternoon of building to get it done. The next day I added a pneumatic crane arm, motorized air compresser, and a pneumatic plow. In the below image you can see the tight fit of the battery box. I also added a not-so-great raising-and-lowering drawbar - sometime I will find a better use for that cylinder. The plow is made of a cut salt box to save bricks (see right). Also, I added a more realistic engine with a fan. Sorry about the blurry picture:)

About two days after I built Fingal I tried to motorize it. Unfortunately it was a failure. The wheels are very big and there is significant amount of resistance in all the u-joints and bevel gears. In 2003 I will/have probably make/made a sports car with smaller wheels.

Update

Now Fingal has a brick plow, see below.
Plow raising and lowering. 1.7 MB
Pneumatic pump pumping. 5.3 MB
Crane arm moving 7.6 MB
